Esther 10 — English translation

- 1King Ahasuerus imposed tribute on the mainland and the islands.
- 2All his mighty and powerful acts, and a full account of the greatness to which the king advanced Mordecai, are recorded in the Annals of the Kings of Media and Persia.
- 3For Mordecai the Jew ranked next to King Ahasuerus and was highly regarded by the Jews and popular with the multitude of his brethren; he sought the good of his people and interceded for the welfare of all his kindred.

לרוב אחיו — ולא לכל אחיו מלמד שפירשו ממנו מקצת סנהדרין לפי שנעשה קרוב למלכות והיה בטל מתלמודו: לכל זרעו מוסב על עמו לכל זרע עמו: חסלת מגילת אסתר:

וַיָּ֩שֶׂם֩ הַמֶּ֨לֶךְ (אחשרש) [אֲחַשְׁוֵר֧וֹשׁ]׀מַ֛ס עַל־הָאָ֖רֶץ וְאִיֵּ֥י הַיָּֽם׃
השאלות — למה שם מס, ולמה מספרו פה:
וישם, מספר איך הצליח מרדכי בהנהגתו בעניני המלוכה שכבש מדינות רבות בחיל המלך עד ששם המלך מס על כל הארצות הסמוכים אל מלכותו:

וְכׇל־מַעֲשֵׂ֤ה תׇקְפּוֹ֙ וּגְב֣וּרָת֔וֹ וּפָרָשַׁת֙ גְּדֻלַּ֣ת מׇרְדֳּכַ֔י אֲשֶׁ֥ר גִּדְּל֖וֹ הַמֶּ֑לֶךְ הֲלוֹא־הֵ֣ם כְּתוּבִ֗ים עַל־סֵ֙פֶר֙ דִּבְרֵ֣י הַיָּמִ֔ים…

עד שמרדכי נשאר בתקפו ולא נשבתה הצלחתו, צדיקים ירשו ארץ וישכנו לעד עליה (תהילים ל״ז:כ״ט) והגם שהי' משנה על כל המדינה וממונה על היהודים בפרטות, מ"מ היה רצוי לרוב אחיו, כי היה בכל עניניו דורש טוב לעמו, ולא התנהג עמם בתוקף וחזקה רק בשלום ובמישור:
