ואני ידעתי גואלי חי — וא"ו זה חוזר למעלה אתם תרדפוני ואני ידעתי גואלי חי ליפרע והוא יתקיים ויעמוד:
ואחרון על עפר יקום — לאחר שיכלו כל שוכני עפר הוא אחרון יעמוד:

Verse 26
ואחר עורי נקפו זאת — והם אינם נותנים לב לגואלי אלא אחר מכת עורי נקפו ונקרו הקניטה והרדיפה הזאת שאמרתי שהיא לי כנוקף וחותך בעורי כמו (ישעיהו י׳:ל״ד) ונקף סבכי היער:
ומבשרי — אני רואה משפטים:
אלוה — ל' משפט ויסורין:
Verse 28
כי תאמרו מה נרדף לו — כמו (דברים ז׳:י״ז) כי תאמר בלבבך שהוא משמש לשון דילמא כלומר ושתהיו נותנים לבכם לחמול ולומר למה נרדפנו:
ושרש דבר — הנמצא בו מה היא לעולם לא תעלה בלבבכם הטובה הזאת שרש דבר על מה הוא עומד:
Verse 29
כי חמה — שאתם מגדילים עון המביא לידי חרב:
למען תדעון — ותבינו סוד הפורענות הבא על הרשעים ויש אם למסורת שדין כתיב כמו שיש דין בעולם כמו (שופטים ה׳:ז׳) שקמתי דבורה כן ראיתי בתנחומא:

Malbim's commentary

Verse 1
The Eleventh Oration — Job’s Reply To Bildad’s Second Speech
Job does not now reply to Bildad's hypothesis, preferring to wait until all three of his companions have completed their speeches in the second round. At this juncture he just complains bitterly at the pain their biting words are causing him; such scorn and insult (Psalms 119:22), Even had he said something improper, a person should not be held responsible for what he says when distressed. He concludes that they have turned against him; that they have become his enemies and, as such, have just come to heap still more anguish on his distress (Lamentations 1:12), hounding him mercilessly. He leaves it to future generations to judge his case; they will surely exonerate him. He also arraigns his companions before Heaven for having persecuted a disease stricken man like him, one who is anguished to the point of death. (Psalms 109:16) He tells of his distress and his troubles and warns them that they should fear God's retribution for the way they had deceived him, under the guise of love.
Verse 2
Job is grievously hurt by his companions’ insinuation that under the cloak of his righteousness he is really a very wicked person, his suffering being the proof of this, there being no suffering without sin according to them. Even if he was as wicked as they say, and even if, as they contend, his suffering is from God, its magnitude is out of all proportion to any sin he may have committed.
Verse 21
Job calls upon his companions to show him the pity that God has not shown. They gain nothing from the withering of his flesh
Verse 23
Job asks that his story not be forgotten — He will yet be vindicated before the end of time
Verse 26
Job maintains that the soul cannot live outside the body — Hence, since his body is beyond repair, what hope is there left to him? The assertion, made by his companions, that despite his physical decay he still has a soul within him, through which he can yet seek salvation, is a deceit; and let them beware, for the punishment for deceit is the sword.

Verse 1

וַיַּ֥עַן אִיּ֗וֹב וַיֹּאמַֽר׃

Job said in reply:

Verse 2

עַד־אָ֭נָה תּוֹגְי֣וּן נַפְשִׁ֑י וּֽתְדַכּאוּנַ֥נִי בְמִלִּֽים׃

How long will you grieve my spirit, And crush me with words?

Verse 3

זֶ֤ה עֶ֣שֶׂר פְּ֭עָמִים תַּכְלִימ֑וּנִי לֹֽא־תֵ֝בֹ֗שׁוּ תַּהְכְּרוּ־לִֽי׃

Time and again you humiliate me, And are not ashamed to abuse me.

Verse 4

וְאַף־אׇמְנָ֥ם שָׁגִ֑יתִי אִ֝תִּ֗י תָּלִ֥ין מְשׁוּגָתִֽי׃

If indeed I have erred, My error remains with me.

Verse 5

אִם־אׇ֭מְנָם עָלַ֣י תַּגְדִּ֑ילוּ וְתוֹכִ֥יחוּ עָ֝לַ֗י חֶרְפָּתִֽי׃

Though you are overbearing toward me, Reproaching me with my disgrace,

Verse 6

דְּֽעוּ־אֵ֭פוֹ כִּֽי־אֱל֣וֹהַּ עִוְּתָ֑נִי וּ֝מְצוּד֗וֹ עָלַ֥י הִקִּֽיף׃

Yet know that God has wronged me, And has thrown up siege works around me.

Verse 7

הֵ֤ן אֶצְעַ֣ק חָ֭מָס וְלֹ֣א אֵעָנֶ֑ה אֲ֝שַׁוַּ֗ע וְאֵ֣ין מִשְׁפָּֽט׃

I cry, “Violence!” but am not answered; I shout, but can get no justice.

Verse 8

אׇרְחִ֣י גָ֭דַר וְלֹ֣א אֶעֱב֑וֹר וְעַ֥ל נְ֝תִיבוֹתַ֗י חֹ֣שֶׁךְ יָשִֽׂים׃

My way has been barred; I cannot pass; Darkness has been laid upon my path.

Verse 9

כְּ֭בוֹדִי מֵעָלַ֣י הִפְשִׁ֑יט וַ֝יָּ֗סַר עֲטֶ֣רֶת רֹאשִֽׁי׃

My glory has been stripped from me, The crown removed from my head.

Verse 10

יִתְּצֵ֣נִי סָ֭בִיב וָאֵלַ֑ךְ וַיַּסַּ֥ע כָּ֝עֵ֗ץ תִּקְוָתִֽי׃

[God] tears down every part of me; I perish; My hopes are uprooted like a tree.

Verse 11

וַיַּ֣חַר עָלַ֣י אַפּ֑וֹ וַיַּחְשְׁבֵ֖נִי ל֣וֹ כְצָרָֽיו׃

God’s anger is kindled against me; I am regarded as a foe.

Verse 12

יַ֤חַד׀ יָ֘בֹ֤אוּ גְדוּדָ֗יו וַיָּסֹ֣לּוּ עָלַ֣י דַּרְכָּ֑ם וַיַּחֲנ֖וּ סָבִ֣יב לְאׇהֳלִֽי׃

Heavenly troops advance together; They build their road toward me And encamp around my tent.

Verse 13

אַ֭חַי מֵעָלַ֣י הִרְחִ֑יק וְ֝יֹדְעַ֗י אַךְ־זָ֥רוּ מִמֶּֽנִּי׃

My kin have been alienated from me; My acquaintances disown me.

Verse 14

חָדְל֥וּ קְרוֹבָ֑י וּֽמְיֻדָּעַ֥י שְׁכֵחֽוּנִי׃

My relatives are gone; My friends have forgotten me.

Verse 15

גָּ֘רֵ֤י בֵיתִ֣י וְ֭אַמְהֹתַי לְזָ֣ר תַּחְשְׁבֻ֑נִי נׇ֝כְרִ֗י הָיִ֥יתִי בְעֵינֵיהֶֽם׃

My dependents and maidservants regard me as a stranger; I am an outsider to them.

Verse 16

לְעַבְדִּ֣י קָ֭רָאתִי וְלֹ֣א יַעֲנֶ֑ה בְּמוֹ־פִ֝֗י אֶתְחַנֶּן־לֽוֹ׃

I summon my servant but he does not respond; I must myself entreat him.

Verse 17

ר֭וּחִי זָ֣רָה לְאִשְׁתִּ֑י וְ֝חַנֹּתִ֗י לִבְנֵ֥י בִטְנִֽי׃

My odor is repulsive to my wife; I am loathsome to my children.

Verse 18

גַּם־עֲ֭וִילִים מָ֣אֲסוּ בִ֑י אָ֝ק֗וּמָה וַיְדַבְּרוּ־בִֽי׃

Even youngsters disdain me; When I rise, they speak against me.

Verse 19

תִּ֭עֲבוּנִי כׇּל־מְתֵ֣י סוֹדִ֑י וְזֶה־אָ֝הַ֗בְתִּי נֶהְפְּכוּ־בִֽי׃

All my bosom friends detest me; Those I love have turned against me.

Verse 20

בְּעוֹרִ֣י וּ֭בִבְשָׂרִי דָּבְקָ֣ה עַצְמִ֑י וָ֝אֶתְמַלְּטָ֗ה בְּע֣וֹר שִׁנָּֽי׃

My bones stick to my skin and flesh; I escape with the skin of my teeth.

Verse 21

חׇנֻּ֬נִי חׇנֻּ֣נִי אַתֶּ֣ם רֵעָ֑י כִּ֥י יַד־אֱ֝ל֗וֹהַּ נָ֣גְעָה בִּֽי׃

Pity me, pity me! You are my friends; For the hand of God has struck me!

Verse 22

לָ֭מָּה תִּרְדְּפֻ֣נִי כְמוֹ־אֵ֑ל וּ֝מִבְּשָׂרִ֗י לֹ֣א תִשְׂבָּֽעוּ׃

Why do you pursue me like God, Maligning me insatiably?

Verse 23

מִי־יִתֵּ֣ן אֵ֭פוֹ וְיִכָּתְב֣וּן מִלָּ֑י מִי־יִתֵּ֖ן בַּסֵּ֣פֶר וְיֻחָֽקוּ׃

O that my words were written down; Would they were inscribed in a record,

Verse 24

בְּעֵט־בַּרְזֶ֥ל וְעֹפָ֑רֶת לָ֝עַ֗ד בַּצּ֥וּר יֵחָצְבֽוּן׃

Incised on a rock forever With iron stylus and lead!

Verse 25

וַאֲנִ֣י יָ֭דַעְתִּי גֹּ֣אֲלִי חָ֑י וְ֝אַחֲר֗וֹן עַל־עָפָ֥ר יָקֽוּם׃

But I know that my Vindicator lives, And in the end will testify on earth—

Verse 26

וְאַחַ֣ר ע֭וֹרִי נִקְּפוּ־זֹ֑את וּ֝מִבְּשָׂרִ֗י אֶחֱזֶ֥ה אֱלֽוֹהַּ׃

This, after my skin will have been peeled off. But I would behold God while still in my flesh,

Verse 27

אֲשֶׁ֤ר אֲנִ֨י׀ אֶחֱזֶה־לִּ֗י וְעֵינַ֣י רָא֣וּ וְלֹא־זָ֑ר כָּל֖וּ כִלְיֹתַ֣י בְּחֵקִֽי׃

I myself, not another, would do so; Would see with my own eyes: My heart pines within me.

Verse 28

כִּ֣י תֹ֭אמְרוּ מַה־נִּרְדׇּף־ל֑וֹ וְשֹׁ֥רֶשׁ דָּ֝בָ֗ר נִמְצָא־בִֽי׃

You say, “How do we persecute him? The root of the matter is in him.”

Verse 29

גּ֤וּרוּ לָכֶ֨ם׀ מִפְּנֵי־חֶ֗רֶב כִּֽי־חֵ֭מָה עֲוֺנ֣וֹת חָ֑רֶב לְמַ֖עַן תֵּדְע֣וּן (שדין) [שַׁדּֽוּן]׃ {פ}

Be in fear of the sword, For [your] fury is iniquity worthy of the sword; Know there is a judgment!
