Orach Chayim Siman 185

Orach Chayim Siman 185 is a source-text unit from the Shulchan Arukh with 5 seifim. Its reading map separates the practical rule, its conditions and the points that need comparison with the surrounding text.

    What to track

Read each seif as a separate step. Identify the action, the condition that limits it and any distinction between cases before moving to the next seif.

    Study lens

Look for rabbinic statements and attributed teachings, a test of an apparently obvious assumption. The source text remains the primary evidence; this note offers a structured way to enter it rather than replacing close reading.

    Original text

Birkas Hamazon can be recited in any language

One needs to hear what he is reciting but if he does not hear he has fulfilled his obligation as long as he articulated the words

There is an opinion that that when a ba’al habayis is with his children and wife he must recite birkas hamazon out loud so they can discharge their obligation with his recitation

Even if one got significantly drunk to the point that the person is unable to properly speak, one is still able to bless the Birkat HaMazon.

If one blessed the Birkat HaMazon and [found] that there was feces near him or that he had been drunk, Tosafos and Rabbi Asher ben Yehiel were unsure if one needed to go back and re-bless the Birkat HaMazon, but not for urine; for that, one need not re-bless Birkat HaMazon.
