When a person's son-in-law is prohibited by a neder (vow) from deriving benefit from him, and he wishes to give money to his daughter. This siman contains one se'if. If one's son-in-law is prohibited by a neder from deriving benefit from him, and he wishes to give his daughter money so that she may benefit from it and spend it on her needs, he gives it to her and says: ‘This money is given to you as a gift, provided that your husband has no rights in it; rather, it is to be used for what you put into your mouth, or for what you wear, and the like.’ Even if he says, ‘On condition that your husband has no rights in it, but do with it whatever you wish,’ the husband does not acquire it, and she may do with it whatever she wishes. However, if he gives her a gift and says, ‘On condition that your husband has no rights in it,’ without specifying that this gift is for such-and-such a purpose, or that she may do with it whatever she wishes, the husband acquires the right to enjoy its fruits (income or produce). This is forbidden, for he is prohibited from deriving benefit from his father-in-law. Some say that even when he says to her, ‘On condition that your husband has no rights in it, and do with it whatever you wish,’ the husband acquires rights in it and is prohibited from benefiting from it.
