- 1De la défense de jurer par les idoles et de prononcer leurs noms Celui qui fait des vœux devant un faux dieu ou qui jure en son nom est passible de la fustigation. Il est également défendu de prononcer le nom d’un faux dieu, que cela paraisse nécessaire ou non.
- 2On peut prononcer le nom d’une fête païenne emprunté à celui d’un homme, mais il ne faut pas affecter en le prononçant un respect égal à celui du païen.
- 3Il ne faut pas exciter un païen, ni le pousser à jurer par le nom de ses dieux.
- 4Il est permis de prononcer les noms des faux dieux mentionnés dans le Pentateuque.
- 5On peut, devant un idolâtre, parler ironiquement de l'impuissance des idoles. G LOSE : On peut par exemple leur souhaiter que les faux dieux réalisent leurs vœux.

הנודר או נשבע בשם אלילים הרי זה היה לוקה ואסור להזכירה בשמה בין לצורך בין שלא לצורך:
שם חגים שלהם שהם כשמות בני אדם אין חשש להזכירם והוא שלא יקראם כמו שמזכירם אותם העובדי כוכבים בלשון חשיבות. (מרדכי ספ"ק דעבודת כוכבים בשם ראבי"ה והגה' מיימוני ור' ירוחם):
אסור לגרום לעובד כוכבים שידור או שישבע בשם אלילים (ועיין בא"ח סימן קנ"ו ובח"מ ס"ס קע"ו):
מותר להזכיר שם אלילים הכתובים בתורה כמו כרע בל קורס נבו העורכים לגד שולחן:
מותר להתלוצץ באלילים: הגה מותר לומר לעובד כוכבים אלהיך יהיה בעזרך או יצליח מעשיך (רמב"ם בפי' המשנה):
