    Megillah 17a
אלא שמע מינה ארבע עשרה שנין דהוה בבית עבר לא חשיב להו. דתניא: היה יעקב בבית עבר מוטמן ארבע עשרה שנה.

The calculation presented reaches only 116 years, whereas Jacob tells Pharaoh he is 130. Fourteen years in Ever’s house fill the gap. The Gemara then explains that these years are not counted toward punishment for his absence from his father.

Some members of the Sanhedrin distance themselves from Mordechai. Teachings on Torah lead to Jacob’s chronology: the years in Ever’s house do not count toward punishment for absence from his parents. This does not authorize neglecting rescue.

    Kushya

The age calculation until Jacob meets Pharaoh leaves fourteen years; where was he?

    Terutz

The baraita supplies years studying in Ever’s house, then distinguishes them from the years with Laban and on the journey.
