    Source and decoding

    Bava Metzia 20a

If one finds documents in a pouch or case, a roll or bundle of documents, he shall return them. A bundle is three tied together. Rabban Shimon ben Gamliel says: If one borrowed from three, return them to the borrower; if three borrowed from one, return them to the lender.

Container, number and arrangement add evidence beyond one note. The Gemara tests announcement and knot identification. Single borrower or lender patterns are checked against scribal and authentication alternatives. Describe observation before conclusion.
