Verse 2
הודו לה' וגו' יאמר נא ישראל — לפי שלעולם חסדו:
Verse 4
יראי ה' — אלו בני לוי שכתוב בהם מי לה' אלי ויאספו אליו כל בני לוי (שמות ל״ב:כ״ו) במעשה העגל ונלחמו עם ישראל כשאמרו נתנה ראש ונשובה מצרימה (במדבר י״ד:ד׳):
Verse 8
טוב לחסות בה' וגו' — חסיון זה אינו אלא לשון חסיון צל ודבר מועט הוא:
מבטח — דבר בריא וסמך חזק ואעפ"כ לחסות בה' טוב מהבטחת בני אדם:
Verse 10
כל גוים סבבוני — מדבר במלחמות גוג ומגוג שכל הגוים יהיו שם, כמו שנאמ' ואספתי את כל הגוי' אל ירושלים למלחמה (זכריה י"ד):
אמילם — אכרית' לשון ימולל ויבש (לעיל ב'):
Verse 12
דעכו כאש קוצים — כל לשון דעיכה נופל על לשון קפיצה ונתור ממהר להיות נתר ונתק ממקומו על כן הוא נופל על לשון אש ועל לשון מים כמו נדעכו ממקומם (איוב ו׳:י״ז) וכן ימי נדעכו (שם יז) וכן נרו עליו ידעך (שם יח) כדרך שלהבת הנתקת מן הפתילה ועולה למעלה כשהיא כבה:

דחה דחיתני לנפול — אתה אויבי:

עזי וזמרת יה ויהי לי לישועה — עזי וזמר' גבורת הקב"ה היה לי לישועה, עזי יו"ד יתיר' כי לא מצינו במקר' עזי נקוד חטף קמץ אלא שורק חוץ משלשה מקומות שהוא סמוך אצל וזמרת וע"כ וזמרת דבוק לתיבת השם ואינך יכול לפרשו וזמרתי, ואל תתמה על ויהי לי שלא אמר היה לי לישוע' שהרב' כאלה במקרא, ואשר לא שם לבו וגו' ויעזוב את עבדיו וגו' (שמות ט׳:כ״א) היה לו לכתוב עזב:
Verse 15
קול רנה וישועה — תהיה לעתיד באהלי צדיקי' ומהו קול הרנה ימין ה' עשה חיל ימין ה' רוממה וגו':
Verse 16
ימין ה' רוממה — מדרש אגדה עליונים ברא הקב"ה בימין לפיכך לא שלטה בהם מיתה, שנאמר אף ידי יסדה ארץ (ישעי' מה) זה שמאל וימיני טפחה שמים זה ימין וכן אמר המשורר ימין ה' רוממה שבראת אותם שברומו של עולם היא ימין ה' שתעשה חיילות של צדיקים לע"ל וגם בה יחי' אות' ויחיו לעול' ואז לא אמות כי אחיה לעולם:
Verse 17
לא אמות — אני כנ"י כע"ג מיתת עולם כי אחיה וגו':
Verse 18
יסור יסרני יה — בגלות ושם נתכפרו כל עונותי ולמות לא נתנני:
Verse 19
פתחו לי שערי צדק — ואלו הן שערי צדק:
Verse 20
זה השער — של בית המקדש שהוא לה' והצדיקים יבואו בו ושם אודך כי עניתני מן הגלות:
Verse 22
אבן מאסו הבונים — עם שהיו שפל בין האומות:
Verse 23
מאת ה' היתה זאת — כך יאמרו הכל:
Verse 26
ברוך הבא בשם ה' — יאמרו למביאי הבכורי' ולעולי הרגלים:
ברכנוכם — ברכנו אתכם:
Verse 27
אסרו חג בעבותים — הזבחים והחגיגות שהיו נקיים ובדוקין ממום קושרין בכרעי מטותיהם עד שיביאום לעזרה בקרנות המזבח, ויש לפתור כל סוף המזמור הזה מלא אמות כי אחיה בדוד עצמו:
[יח] יסור יסרני יה — על מעשה בת שבע ביסורין כגון תחת הכבשה ישלם ארבעתים (שמואל ב י"ב) ששה חדשים נצטרע דוד:
ולמות לא נתנני — שנאמר גם ה' העביר חטאתך לא תמות (שם):
[יט] פתחו לי שערי צדק — ואלו הן שערי צדק אותם השערים של בתי כנסיות ומדרשות אשר הם לה' והצדיקים באים בהם:
[כא] אודך כי עניתני — מכאן ואילך אמר דוד ושמואל וישי ואחי דוד כמו שמפורש בערבי פסחים מי שאמר זה לא אמר זה:

Malbim's commentary

Verse 19
Open (the king and the upright ones who went with him arrived at the Temple to give thanks and to bring their offerings of thanksgiving and sacrifice that day), and this [opening] is a mitzvah for the gatekeepers that they should open the gates of justice for him these are the gates of the Temple so that he may enter and thank H' He called them the gates of justice because after his salvation came by means of chastisements, H' treated him in accordance with the attribute of justice according to his actions, and not in accordance with the attribute of kindness.

Verse 1

הוֹד֣וּ לַיהֹוָ֣ה כִּי־ט֑וֹב כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

Praise G OD , who is good— whose steadfast love is eternal.

Verse 2

יֹאמַר־נָ֥א יִשְׂרָאֵ֑ל כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

Let Israel declare, “God’s steadfast love is eternal.”

Verse 3

יֹאמְרוּ־נָ֥א בֵֽית־אַהֲרֹ֑ן כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

Let the house of Aaron declare, “God’s steadfast love is eternal.”

Verse 4

יֹאמְרוּ־נָ֭א יִרְאֵ֣י יְהֹוָ֑ה כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃

Let those who fear G OD declare, “God’s steadfast love is eternal.”

Verse 5

מִֽן־הַ֭מֵּצַר קָרָ֣אתִי יָּ֑הּ עָנָ֖נִי בַמֶּרְחָ֣ב יָֽהּ׃

In distress I called on Yah; Yah answered me and brought me relief.

Verse 6

יְהֹוָ֣ה לִ֭י לֹ֣א אִירָ֑א מַה־יַּעֲשֶׂ֖ה לִ֣י אָדָֽם׃

G OD is on my side, I have no fear; what can mortals do to me?

Verse 7

יְהֹוָ֣ה לִ֭י בְּעֹזְרָ֑י וַ֝אֲנִ֗י אֶרְאֶ֥ה בְשֹׂנְאָֽי׃

With G OD on my side as my helper, I will see the downfall of my foes.

Verse 8

ט֗וֹב לַחֲס֥וֹת בַּיהֹוָ֑ה מִ֝בְּטֹ֗חַ בָּאָדָֽם׃

It is better to take refuge in G OD than to trust in mortals;

Verse 9

ט֗וֹב לַחֲס֥וֹת בַּיהֹוָ֑ה מִ֝בְּטֹ֗חַ בִּנְדִיבִֽים׃

it is better to take refuge in G OD than to trust in the great.

Verse 10

כׇּל־גּוֹיִ֥ם סְבָב֑וּנִי בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה כִּ֣י אֲמִילַֽם׃

All nations have beset me; by G OD ’s name I will surely cut them down. in this and the following two verses uncertain.

Verse 11

סַבּ֥וּנִי גַם־סְבָב֑וּנִי בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה כִּ֣י אֲמִילַֽם׃

They beset me, they surround me; by G OD ’s name I will surely cut them down.

Verse 12

סַבּ֤וּנִי כִדְבוֹרִ֗ים דֹּ֭עֲכוּ כְּאֵ֣שׁ קוֹצִ֑ים בְּשֵׁ֥ם יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה כִּ֣י אֲמִילַֽם׃

They have beset me like bees; they shall be extinguished like burning thorns; by G OD ’s name I will surely cut them down.

Verse 13

דַּחֹ֣ה דְחִיתַ֣נִי לִנְפֹּ֑ל וַ֖יהֹוָ֣ה עֲזָרָֽנִי׃

You pressed me hard, I nearly fell; but G OD helped me.

Verse 14

עׇזִּ֣י וְזִמְרָ֣ת יָ֑הּ וַֽיְהִי־לִ֝֗י לִישׁוּעָֽה׃

Yah is my strength and might, and has become my deliverance.

Verse 15

ק֤וֹל׀ רִנָּ֬ה וִישׁוּעָ֗ה בְּאׇהֳלֵ֥י צַדִּיקִ֑ים יְמִ֥ין יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה עֹ֣שָׂה חָֽיִל׃

The tents of the victorious resound with joyous shouts of deliverance, “G OD ’s right hand is triumphant!

Verse 16

יְמִ֣ין יְ֭הֹוָה רוֹמֵמָ֑ה יְמִ֥ין יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה עֹ֣שָׂה חָֽיִל׃

G OD ’s right hand is exalted! G OD ’s right hand is triumphant!”

Verse 17

לֹא־אָמ֥וּת כִּֽי־אֶחְיֶ֑ה וַ֝אֲסַפֵּ֗ר מַעֲשֵׂ֥י יָֽהּ׃

I shall not die but live and proclaim the works of Yah.

Verse 18

יַסֹּ֣ר יִסְּרַ֣נִּי יָּ֑הּ וְ֝לַמָּ֗וֶת לֹ֣א נְתָנָֽנִי׃

Yah punished me severely, but did not hand me over to death.

Verse 19

פִּתְחוּ־לִ֥י שַׁעֲרֵי־צֶ֑דֶק אָבֹא־בָ֝֗ם אוֹדֶ֥ה יָֽהּ׃

Open the gates of victory for me that I may enter them and praise Yah.

Verse 20

זֶה־הַשַּׁ֥עַר לַיהֹוָ֑ה צַ֝דִּיקִ֗ים יָבֹ֥אוּ בֽוֹ׃

This is the gateway to G OD — the victorious shall enter through it.

Verse 21

א֭וֹדְךָ כִּ֣י עֲנִיתָ֑נִי וַתְּהִי־לִ֝֗י לִישׁוּעָֽה׃

I praise You, for You have answered me, and have become my deliverance.

Verse 22

אֶ֭בֶן מָאֲס֣וּ הַבּוֹנִ֑ים הָ֝יְתָ֗ה לְרֹ֣אשׁ פִּנָּֽה׃

The stone that the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone.

Verse 23

מֵאֵ֣ת יְ֭הֹוָה הָ֣יְתָה זֹּ֑את הִ֖יא נִפְלָ֣את בְּעֵינֵֽינוּ׃

This is G OD ’s doing; it is marvelous in our sight.

Verse 24

זֶה־הַ֭יּוֹם עָשָׂ֣ה יְהֹוָ֑ה נָגִ֖ילָה וְנִשְׂמְחָ֣ה בֽוֹ׃

This is the day that G OD has made— let us exult and rejoice on it.

Verse 25

אָנָּ֣א יְ֭הֹוָה הוֹשִׁ֘יעָ֥ה נָּ֑א אָנָּ֥א יְ֝הֹוָ֗ה הַצְלִ֘יחָ֥ה נָּֽא׃

O E TERNAL One, deliver us! O E TERNAL One, let us prosper!

Verse 26

בָּר֣וּךְ הַ֭בָּא בְּשֵׁ֣ם יְהֹוָ֑ה בֵּ֝רַ֥כְנוּכֶ֗ם מִבֵּ֥ית יְהֹוָֽה׃

May everyone who enters be blessed in the name of G OD ; we bless you from the House of G OD .

Verse 27

אֵ֤ל׀ יְהֹוָה֮ וַיָּ֢אֶ֫ר לָ֥נוּ אִסְרוּ־חַ֥ג בַּעֲבֹתִ֑ים עַד־קַ֝רְנ֗וֹת הַמִּזְבֵּֽחַ׃

The E TERNAL is God, who has given us light; bind the festal offering to the horns of the altar with cords.

Verse 28

אֵלִ֣י אַתָּ֣ה וְאוֹדֶ֑ךָּ אֱ֝לֹהַ֗י אֲרוֹמְמֶֽךָּ׃

You are my God and I will praise You; You are my God and I will extol You.

Verse 29

הוֹד֣וּ לַיהֹוָ֣ה כִּי־ט֑וֹב כִּ֖י לְעוֹלָ֣ם חַסְדּֽוֹ׃ {פ}
