I Chronicles 24

וְלִבְנֵ֥י אַהֲרֹ֖ן מַחְלְקוֹתָ֑ם בְּנֵ֣י אַהֲרֹ֔ן נָדָב֙ וַאֲבִיה֔וּא אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וְאִיתָמָֽר׃

The divisions of the Aaronites were: The sons of Aaron: Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.

וַיָּ֨מׇת נָדָ֤ב וַֽאֲבִיהוּא֙ לִפְנֵ֣י אֲבִיהֶ֔ם וּבָנִ֖ים לֹא־הָי֣וּ לָהֶ֑ם וַֽיְכַהֲנ֔וּ אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וְאִיתָמָֽר׃

Nadab and Abihu died in the lifetime of their father, and they had no children, so Eleazar and Ithamar served as priests.

וַיֶּחָלְקֵ֣ם דָּוִ֔יד וְצָדוֹק֙ מִן־בְּנֵ֣י אֶלְעָזָ֔ר וַאֲחִימֶ֖לֶךְ מִן־בְּנֵ֣י אִיתָמָ֑ר לִפְקֻדָּתָ֖ם בַּעֲבֹדָתָֽם׃

David, Zadok of the sons of Eleazar, and Ahimelech of the sons of Ithamar divided them into offices by their tasks.

וַיִּמָּצְא֣וּ בְֽנֵי־אֶלְעָזָ֡ר רַבִּ֞ים לְרָאשֵׁ֧י הַגְּבָרִ֛ים מִן־בְּנֵ֥י אִיתָמָ֖ר וַֽיַּחְלְק֑וּם לִבְנֵ֨י אֶלְעָזָ֜ר רָאשִׁ֤ים לְבֵית־אָבוֹת֙ שִׁשָּׁ֣ה עָשָׂ֔ר וְלִבְנֵ֧י אִיתָמָ֛ר לְבֵ֥ית אֲבוֹתָ֖ם שְׁמוֹנָֽה׃

The sons of Eleazar turned out to be more numerous by male heads than the sons of Ithamar, so they divided the sons of Eleazar into sixteen chiefs of clans and the sons of Ithamar into eight clans.

וַיַּחְלְק֥וּם בְּגוֹרָל֖וֹת אֵ֣לֶּה עִם־אֵ֑לֶּה כִּֽי־הָי֤וּ שָׂרֵי־קֹ֙דֶשׁ֙ וְשָׂרֵ֣י הָאֱלֹהִ֔ים מִבְּנֵ֥י אֶלְעָזָ֖ר וּבִבְנֵ֥י אִיתָמָֽר׃ {ס}

They divided them by lot, both on an equal footing, since they were all sanctuary officers and officers of God—the sons of Eleazar and the sons of Ithamar.

וַֽיִּכְתְּבֵ֡ם שְֽׁמַעְיָה֩ בֶן־נְתַנְאֵ֨ל הַסּוֹפֵ֜ר מִן־הַלֵּוִ֗י לִפְנֵ֨י הַמֶּ֤לֶךְ וְהַשָּׂרִים֙ וְצָד֣וֹק הַכֹּהֵ֗ן וַאֲחִימֶ֙לֶךְ֙ בֶּן־אֶבְיָתָ֔ר וְרָאשֵׁי֙ הָאָב֔וֹת לַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְלַלְוִיִּ֑ם בֵּֽית־אָ֣ב אֶחָ֗ד אָחֻז֙ לְאֶלְעָזָ֔ר וְאָחֻ֥ז׀אָחֻ֖ז לְאִיתָמָֽר׃ {פ}

Shemaiah son of Nathanel, the scribe, who was of the Levites, registered them under the eye of the king, the officers, and Zadok the priest, and Ahimelech son of Abiathar, and the chiefs of clans of the priests and Levites—one clan more taken for Eleazar for each one taken of Ithamar.

וַיֵּצֵ֞א הַגּוֹרָ֤ל הָֽרִאשׁוֹן֙ לִיה֣וֹיָרִ֔יב {ס} לִידַֽעְיָ֖ה הַשֵּׁנִֽי׃ {ס}

The first lot fell on Jehoiarib; the second on Jedaiah;

לְחָרִם֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י {ס} לִשְׂעֹרִ֖ים הָרְבִעִֽי׃ {ס}

the third on Harim; the fourth on Seorim;

לְמַלְכִּיָּה֙ הַחֲמִישִׁ֔י {ס} לְמִיָּמִ֖ן הַשִּׁשִּֽׁי׃ {ס}

the fifth on Malchijah; the sixth on Mijamin;

לְהַקּוֹץ֙ הַשְּׁבִעִ֔י {ס} לַאֲבִיָּ֖ה הַשְּׁמִינִֽי׃ {ס}

the seventh on Hakkoz; the eighth on Abijah;

לְיֵשׁ֙וּעַ֙ הַתְּשִׁעִ֔י {ס} לִשְׁכַנְיָ֖הוּ הָעֲשִׂרִֽי׃ {ס}

the ninth on Jeshua; the tenth on Shecaniah;

לְאֶלְיָשִׁיב֙ עַשְׁתֵּ֣י עָשָׂ֔ר {ס} לְיָקִ֖ים שְׁנֵ֥ים עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס}

the eleventh on Eliashib; the twelfth on Jakim;

לְחֻפָּה֙ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה עָשָׂ֔ר {ס} לְיֶשֶׁבְאָ֖ב אַרְבָּעָ֥ה עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס}

the thirteenth on Huppah; the fourteenth on Jeshebeab;

לְבִלְגָּה֙ חֲמִשָּׁ֣ה עָשָׂ֔ר {ס} לְאִמֵּ֖ר שִׁשָּׁ֥ה עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס}

the fifteenth on Bilgah; the sixteenth on Immer;

לְחֵזִיר֙ שִׁבְעָ֣ה עָשָׂ֔ר {ס} לְהַפִּצֵּ֖ץ שְׁמוֹנָ֥ה עָשָֽׂר׃ {ס}

the seventeenth on Hezir; the eighteenth on Happizzez;

לִֽפְתַחְיָה֙ תִּשְׁעָ֣ה עָשָׂ֔ר {ס} לִֽיחֶזְקֵ֖אל הָעֶשְׂרִֽים׃ {ס}

the nineteenth on Pethahiah; the twentieth on Jehezkel;

לְיָכִין֙ אֶחָ֣ד וְעֶשְׂרִ֔ים {ס} לְגָמ֖וּל שְׁנַ֥יִם וְעֶשְׂרִֽים׃ {ס}

the twenty-first on Jachin; the twenty-second on Gamul;

לִדְלָיָ֙הוּ֙ שְׁלֹשָׁ֣ה וְעֶשְׂרִ֔ים {ס} לְמַעַזְיָ֖הוּ אַרְבָּעָ֥ה וְעֶשְׂרִֽים׃ {פ}

the twenty-third on Delaiah; the twenty-fourth on Maaziah.

אֵ֣לֶּה פְקֻדָּתָ֞ם לַעֲבֹדָתָ֗ם לָב֤וֹא לְבֵית־יְהֹוָה֙ כְּמִשְׁפָּטָ֔ם בְּיַ֖ד אַהֲרֹ֣ן אֲבִיהֶ֑ם כַּאֲשֶׁ֣ר צִוָּ֔הוּ יְהֹוָ֖ה אֱלֹהֵ֥י יִשְׂרָאֵֽל׃ {פ}

According to this allocation of offices by tasks, they were to enter the House of G OD as was laid down for them by Aaron their father, as the E TERNAL God of Israel had commanded him.

וְלִבְנֵ֥י לֵוִ֖י הַנּוֹתָרִ֑ים לִבְנֵ֤י עַמְרָם֙ שֽׁוּבָאֵ֔ל לִבְנֵ֥י שׁוּבָאֵ֖ל יֶחְדְּיָֽהוּ׃ {ס}

The remaining Levites: the sons of Amram: Shubael; the sons of Shubael: Jehdeiah;

לִרְחַבְיָ֑הוּ לִבְנֵ֣י רְחַבְיָ֔הוּ הָרֹ֖אשׁ יִשִּׁיָּֽה׃ {ס}

Rehabiah. The sons of Rehabiah: Isshiah, the chief.

לַיִּצְהָרִ֣י שְׁלֹמ֔וֹת לִבְנֵ֥י שְׁלֹמ֖וֹת יָֽחַת׃ {ס}

Izharites: Shelomoth. The sons of Shelomoth: Jahath

וּבְנָ֖י יְרִיָּ֑הוּ אֲמַרְיָ֙הוּ֙ הַשֵּׁנִ֔י יַחֲזִיאֵל֙ הַשְּׁלִישִׁ֔י יְקַמְעָ֖ם הָרְבִיעִֽי׃ {ס}

and Benai, Jeriah; the second, Amariah; the third, Jahaziel; the fourth, Jekameam.

בְּנֵ֤י עֻזִּיאֵל֙ מִיכָ֔ה לִבְנֵ֥י מִיכָ֖ה (שמור) [שָׁמִֽיר]׃

The sons of Uzziel: Micah. The sons of Micah: Shamir.

אֲחִ֤י מִיכָה֙ יִשִּׁיָּ֔ה {ס} לִבְנֵ֥י יִשִּׁיָּ֖ה זְכַרְיָֽהוּ׃ {ס}

The brother of Micah: Isshiah. The sons of Isshiah: Zechariah.

בְּנֵ֤י מְרָרִי֙ מַחְלִ֣י וּמוּשִׁ֔י {ס} בְּנֵ֖י יַעֲזִיָּ֥הוּ בְנֽוֹ׃ {ס}

The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. The sons of Jaazaiah, his son—

בְּנֵ֖י מְרָרִ֑י לְיַעֲזִיָּ֣הוּ בְנ֔וֹ וְשֹׁ֥הַם וְזַכּ֖וּר וְעִבְרִֽי׃ {ס}

the sons of Merari by Jaazaiah his son: Shoham, Zakkur, and Ibri.

לְמַחְלִי֙ אֶלְעָזָ֔ר וְלֹא־הָ֥יָה ל֖וֹ בָּנִֽים׃ {ס}

Mahli: Eleazar; he had no sons.

לְקִ֖ישׁ בְּנֵי־קִ֥ישׁ יְרַחְמְאֵֽל׃ {ס}

Kish: the sons of Kish: Jerahmeel.

וּבְנֵ֣י מוּשִׁ֔י מַחְלִ֥י וְעֵ֖דֶר וִירִימ֑וֹת אֵ֛לֶּה בְּנֵ֥י הַלְוִיִּ֖ם לְבֵ֥ית אֲבֹתֵיהֶֽם׃

The sons of Mushi: Mahli, Eder, and Jerimoth. These were the sons of the Levites by their clans.

וַיַּפִּ֩ילוּ֩ גַם־הֵ֨ם גּוֹרָל֜וֹת לְעֻמַּ֣ת׀ אֲחֵיהֶ֣ם בְּנֵי־אַהֲרֹ֗ן לִפְנֵ֨י דָוִ֤יד הַמֶּ֙לֶךְ֙ וְצָד֣וֹק וַאֲחִימֶ֔לֶךְ וְרָאשֵׁי֙ הָאָב֔וֹת לַכֹּהֲנִ֖ים וְלַלְוִיִּ֑ם אָב֣וֹת הָרֹ֔אשׁ לְעֻמַּ֖ת אָחִ֥יו הַקָּטָֽן׃ {ס}

These too cast lots corresponding to their kindred, the sons of Aaron, under the eye of King David and Zadok and Ahimelech and the chiefs of the clans of the priests and Levites, on the principle of “chief and youngest brother alike.”
