Orach Chayim Siman 487

Orach Chayim Siman 487 is a source-text unit from the Shulchan Arukh with 4 seifim. Its reading map separates the practical rule, its conditions and the points that need comparison with the surrounding text.

    What to track

Read each seif as a separate step. Identify the action, the condition that limits it and any distinction between cases before moving to the next seif.

    Study lens

Look for rabbinic statements and attributed teachings, Shabbat law and sacred time. The source text remains the primary evidence; this note offers a structured way to enter it rather than replacing close reading.

The order of Maariv of pesach. Containging 4 paragraphs: The order of the day is as follows: at the evening and morning and afternoon prayer, say the first three blessings, and the last three blessings, and one blessing about the holiness of the day in the middle: "you have chosen us, etc."; "you have given us, Hashem our God, this day of the festival of Matzot, this festive day that calls for holinesss, the time of our freedom, etc."; "rise up and come before you, etc."; "bestow upon us, etc.", and then end with "who sanctifies Israel and the seasons"; and if he said "who sanctifies the sabbath", but corrected himself immediately, he fulfilled his obligation since he knows that it is a festival. And if it falls on Shabbat, say: "this day of rest and this festival of matzot", and end with "who sanctifies the sabbath and Israel and the seasons". And we do not say the blessing made up of seven.

The Prayer Leader Does Not Recite Kiddush in the Synagogue:

If one forgot to say Ata Bechartanu (the special holiday blessing) and instead said Ya'aleh V'Yavo (the insertion for festivals), he has fulfilled his obligation. Gloss: Even if it was Shabbat, if he mentioned Ya'aleh V'Yavo, he has fulfilled his obligation (Beit Yosef in the name of Orchot Chaim). However, if he said Ata Bechartanu and included Shabbat within it, he still needs to go back and mention the festival specifically in Ya'aleh V'Yavo (Responsa of Mahari”l). Nonetheless, if he did not mention the festival in Ya'aleh V'Yavo, he does not need to repeat the prayer (Beit Yosef). If a prayer leader forgot to mention the festival in the Shacharit (morning) prayer, see Siman 156.

On the first night of Pesach, we complete Hallel in the congregation in a pleasant manner and with a beracha at the beginning and end. The same applies on the second night of [those in the Diaspora who observe] the second day of Yom Tov for the Diaspora. Rama: We do not observe any of this because we don't recite Hallel in the synagogue at night at all.
