Building the Foundation: What is a Memra?
The Talmud is an ocean of discussions. At the heart of these discussions often stand short, concise declarations: the 'Memra'. A memra is not just any statement; it is an authoritative declaration by an Amora, a sage from the Babylonian or Jerusalem Talmudic period.
A memra is a fundamental building block in the 'Shakla v'Tarya'. It presents a position, a halachic ruling, or an interpretation, and from it, the Talmudic discussion develops, with objections, resolutions, proofs, and supports.
