    Source and decoding

    Pesachim 8a
תנא: אין מחייבין אותו להכניס ידו לחורין ולסדקין לבדוק — מפני הסכנה

A tanna taught: One is not obligated to put his hand into holes and crevices to search, because of danger.

The baraita limits reaching into holes and crevices because of danger. The Gemara places the case in a collapse after prior use, where a dog can still reach the chametz and the search duty therefore remains. In response to the principle that mitzvah agents are not harmed, Rav Ashi raises the concern that a needle may be lost and searched for. The continuation explains that the concern is about looking for the needle after the chametz search is finished.
